The most convenient way for people to move about the metropolis is to use a mix of public transportation systems. How will you get from one place to another?

Montreal has plenty of public transport and is very easily accessible by taxi or car. Luckily, you have many choices!

Public Transportation: SMTC operates both the subway and the bus in downtown Montreal. You need to buy a ticket or a pass to ride the metro or bus throughout the city. Passes for one day are only $10; they will allow you to travel around the city for one full day.

If you've only planned to take a few subway rides during your trip, the trip costs only $3.25. You will need 10 metro tickets if you are planning to ride the subway a lot. It will cost you $11 to buy 10 Metro tickets. You might be able to get a SIM card (or maybe a rechargeable smart-card) to help you travel with the SSM. Opus cards are available for purchase for only $6 each, and you are able to load the cards with cash or Montreal Metro passes.

Cash values work just like putting money in your bank account and then paying the corresponding fare each time that your transit passes by. If it's likely that you'll use public transit a lot, we suggest getting a smart card that allows you to buy a range of different tickets that will allow you to use the STM system to pay for your transportation. You will need to pay for a day of unlimited rides to get around Montreal. These cards are prepaid and you pay with cash or cards that are prepaid.

The pass can be loaded with as many city tours as your heart desires! If your stay in Montreal is for a longer time, don't fret because there are many other options!
