Public Transportation: STM operates both the subway and the bus lines that service the city of Montreal. You need to buy a ticket or a pass to ride the metro or bus throughout the city. A metro or bus pass is only $10 for a full day of free travel!

Using the subway to travel from one city to another is really easy, and if you just want to ride the subway, the ride will cost you just $3.25. You could even buy ten tickets to ride the metro for just $27.50 (or, the bus)! Some people opt to buy an Ops card, a rechargeable smartcard that allows you to use the public transportation system of the city. Opus cards cost $6 and can be filled with money or other value.

Cash-value smart cards work just like if your bank deposited money in a credit/debit account, so when someone charges someone to ride a metro or bus, the money is automatically deducted from the balance that was deposited. If there are many times that you will be traveling by public transit, you should get an Ops card that offers you unlimited fares. Opus cards let you buy prepaid travel passes that allow you to use all the public transport in Montreal for a single price. These are available in three different packs of $3, $19, and $26.

Passes that allow riders to travel as many times as they want within a certain time frame. This is great if you plan on visiting several different attractions! If your stay in Montreal is more than just a week, don't be worried - as long as it's over for 31 days, the fares will be just as cheap.

Montreal has some great highways, connecting it with the rest of the province and the rest of Canada. You can reach Montreal easily by taking the 401 in Ontario, or the 20 in New Brunswick/N.

From Quebec City, you can get to Montreal by taking Highway 20 through the city and into Quebec City. Highways 15 and 16 go north and south through the city, connecting several major cities in Quebec and Canada.
