If you want to stay in a hotel that offers all of the amenities you want, it can cost you quite a lot of money. There is also a good selection of other types of accommodations in the city that will allow you to have a pleasant vacation at tastier rates. Airbnb and other vacation rental options are very common in Montreal. The city is very vibrant and filled with fun things for you to see and do. If staying at one or more of Montreal's many vacation homes or Airbnbs is what you want to do, then staying at one or more of the many other places that people rent their homes and offer great views are perfect.

How do I get from one place to another?

Montreal has plenty of public transport and is very easily accessible by taxi or car. You'll have many different options to choose from when you arrive in Montreal, which is great.

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. Metro & Bus: Metro tickets are sold at most metro stations. We suggest purchasing a daily pass unless you plan to do a ton of walking or riding the bus a good deal. A metro or bus pass is only $10 for a full day of free travel!

If you only plan to ride the subway, it will cost you $3.25 to ride the subway for a few minutes. You can buy 10 tickets for $27.50. You will need 10 metro tickets if you are planning to ride the subway a lot. It will cost you $11 to buy 10 Metro tickets. You may be able to get a smartcard that allows you to buy unlimited rides and access other features on STM (Societe de transport de Montreal). Opus cards cost $6 each, and you buy cards with cash or tourist passes to add to your card.

Cash-value smart cards work just like if your bank deposited money in a credit/debit account, so when someone charges someone to ride a metro or bus, the money is automatically deducted from the balance that was deposited. If there are many times that you will be traveling by public transit, you should get an Ops card that offers you unlimited fares. Opus cards cost $6 each, and you pay either with cash or with passes to ride for the day.

The pass can be loaded with as many city tours as your heart desires! If it's something that will be fun to spend a whole weekend in Montreal, get en route to the city in just one day and use the bus or metro again for another day. It will cost just $8 to buy a 31-ride transit pass.

Montreal has several highway connections that allow you to travel easily between other areas of Canada and Quebec. If you've driven from an Ontario province, you'll want to take the Highway 301 or 20 (or other major routes) to drive to the city.

If you've driven from outside Quebec, you can take Highway 14 through Mont-Royal to get to Montreal (and even to Quebec City!). From there, it's easy to drive to several other cities in Quebec, but it's easier to get to Montreal by bus! Highways 15 and 40 run from Montreal to other parts of Quebec and Highway 2 travels between Montreal and Quebec.
