How do I get to places?

If you want to go to the city by the subway, you can get a ticket for $3.25 for one trip. You could even buy ten tickets to ride the metro for just $27.50 (or, the bus)! If you are planning on riding the metro or the buses a lot, you should get a STM Opus smartcard. This is essentially a card you fill with coins and that allows you to take advantage of the reduced rates that are offered. Opus cards cost $6 each, and you may choose to load up the credit card with money or pass money.

Cash values work just like reloadable debit cards - just put some money in the slot on the back of your bus ticket and start riding. When you plan on using the metro or bus a lot, we strongly suggest getting a card that has passes on it, rather than using cash to buy the fares. You will need to have a number of different passes loaded onto your Opuse card, each with a different price.

Passes that allow riders to travel as many times as they want within a certain time frame. This is great if you plan on visiting several different attractions! If it's something that will be fun to spend a whole weekend in Montreal, get en route to the city in just one day and use the bus or metro again for another day. It will cost just $8 to buy a 31-ride transit pass.

Montreal has some great highways, connecting it with the rest of the province and the rest of Canada. It's best to drive from Quebec or New Brunswick to Mont-Royal by taking the 401 to York (or the 20 to Saint John).

If you've driven from outside of Quebec, you can take the highway that leads through the city to a number of other cities in the country - even to Quebec City! Highways 15 and 16 go north and south through the city, connecting several major cities in Quebec and Canada.
