If you'd just like to take the subway, a regular ride on the subway costs only $3.25. You can also buy a book of 10 subway tickets for $27.50. You will need 10 metro tickets if you are planning to ride the subway a lot. It will cost you $11 to buy 10 Metro tickets. If you are planning on riding a lot of the SOM transportation system, you may want to get a smartcard to use in order to get discounts on your future travel. Opus cards cost $6 each to purchase, and you pay with cash or other valid tickets.

Cash-value cards work like reloadable debit cards, so when someone asks for your money, they just give it to the person who will pay the fare for the trip, and then the fare will be deducted from the money that your account has. If it's likely that you'll use public transit a lot, we suggest getting a smart card that allows you to buy a range of different tickets that will allow you to use the STM system to pay for your transportation. You should buy either 1-, 2-, or 3-day unlimited pass cards for $10, $15, or $27 for a one-week pass.

Some transit cards let you ride the metro or the bus as often as it's convenient for you. This is great if you plan to do a whole lot if you stay here. If it's going to be a while, don't be worried because Opus is offering 31-day unlimited use passes for only $84!

Montreal has several major highways linking it with the rest of Canada and Quebec. If you've never been to Canada before, driving through Ontario is the easiest way for you to reach Montreal.

From Quebec City, you can get to Montreal by taking Highway 20 through the city and into Quebec City. Highways 15 and 16 go north and south through the city, connecting several major cities in Quebec and Canada.
