How can I get from one place to another?

Montreal has many different neighborhoods, and if you are driving, you'll have to take public transport to get around. It is easy to get around Montreal by public transportation or by car, but luckily, you have plenty of options.

There are plenty of public transportation options in and around Montreal. You will have the opportunity to purchase tickets at many metro stations and enjoy unlimited rides for a full day. Day passes cost only $10 for one day and let you travel throughout the city for free.

Using the subway to travel from one city to another is really easy, and if you just want to ride the subway, the ride will cost you just $3.25. You may be able to buy ten individual metro tickets, which will allow you to ride the entire system for just $7.50. If you want to ride the STC a lot, you might want to get a smartcard that allows you to buy tickets for unlimited rides. Opus cards are available for purchase for only $6 each, and you are able to load the cards with cash or Montreal Metro passes.

Cash values work just like reloadable debit cards - just put some money in the slot on the back of your bus ticket and start riding. If it's likely that you'll need to use public transport a lot, we highly suggest getting a card that gives you access to more than 100 different types of passes. You will need to have a number of different passes loaded onto your Opuse card, each with a different price.

Passes that allow riders to travel as many times as they want within a certain time frame. This is great if you plan on visiting several different attractions! If it's going to be a while, don't be worried because Opus is offering 31-day unlimited use passes for only $84!

Montreal has several highway connections that will take you all over Canada. If you've driven from an area other than Quebec or New Brunswick, the highway to reach Montreal will be the 401 in Ontario and the 20 in New Brunswick.

If you've driven from outside Quebec, you can take Highway 14 through Mont-Royal to get to Montreal (and even to Quebec City!). From there, it's easy to drive to several other cities in Quebec, but it's easier to get to Montreal by bus! Highway 156 runs north-southern along the shores of the Saint Lawrence River (or the RR) in the city's northeast corner.

Montreal is easily reached by car from all over the province of Quebec.
