Montreal has many different neighborhoods, so if you are planning on staying in one of these homes, it will be easy to get around. Luckily, you have many choices!

There are plenty of public transportation options in and around Montreal. Metro tickets are easy to buy at most metro stations, and a metro pass is great if you plan on riding a bunch of the city's major transit routes. A metro or bus pass is only $10 for a full day of free travel!

If you only plan to ride the subway, it will cost you $3.25 to ride the subway for a few minutes. You can buy 10 tickets for $27.50. You could even buy ten tickets to ride the metro for just $27.50 (or, the bus)! Depending on your plans, you might be able to get a regular pass for $10 or you might want to get a smart ticket for $2. You get that by purchasing a card called an Opis card, and it works much like a regular smartcard. Opus is a simple smart card that allows you to pay for your rides with any amount of cash or a pass.

Cash values work just like putting money in your bank account and then paying the corresponding fare each time that your transit passes by. If it's likely that you'll need to use public transport a lot, we highly suggest getting a card that gives you access to more than 100 different types of passes. Opus cards let you buy prepaid travel passes that allow you to use all the public transport in Montreal for a single price. These are available in three different packs of $3, $19, and $26.

Passes that are valid for 7 days allow riders to travel anywhere they want to go! Those passes are especially handy if you are going to do a bunch of things! If it's something that will be fun to spend a whole weekend in Montreal, get en route to the city in just one day and use the bus or metro again for another day. It will cost just $8 to buy a 31-ride transit pass.

Montreal has several highway connections that allow you to easily travel around the city and to neighboring provinces. If you've driven from an area other than Quebec or New Brunswick, the highway to reach Montreal will be the 401 in Ontario and the 20 in New Brunswick.

Those coming directly from other provinces can use Highway 4 to get to Montreal, and from there, you can drive to the city of Quebec City! Highways 15 and 15A run north-southed, allowing you to connect to many cities in Canada.
