If it's likely that you'll use public transit a lot, we suggest getting a smart card that allows you to buy a range of different tickets that will allow you to use the STM system to pay for your transportation. Opus cards are reloadable with cash value or with season passes to ride on the STM subway and buses for a very low price.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If it's something that will be fun to spend a whole weekend in Montreal, get en route to the city in just one day and use the bus or metro again for another day. It will cost just $8 to buy a 31-ride transit pass.
