Public Transportation: There are many different ways to get around in Montreal. You need to buy a ticket or a pass to ride the metro or bus throughout the city. Day passes cost only $10 for one day and let you travel throughout the city for free.

If you just want to ride the subway, it only costs $3.50 for a one-way ride. You may be able to buy ten individual metro tickets, which will allow you to ride the entire system for just $7.50. If you want to ride the STC a lot, you might want to get a smartcard that allows you to buy tickets for unlimited rides. Opus cards cost $6 and can be filled with money or other value.

Cash-value smart cards work just like if your bank deposited money in a credit/debit account, so when someone charges someone to ride a metro or bus, the money is automatically deducted from the balance that was deposited. If it's likely that you'll use public transit often, you might want to buy an Ops card that has a number of fares attached to it, and not get cash. You will need to have a number of different passes loaded onto your Opuse card, each with a different price.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If your stay in Montreal is for a longer time, don't fret because there are many other options!
