How can I get from one place to another?

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. You may purchase tickets for the metro at many of the stations; we would also highly suggest buying a free day-pass for any trip that you plan to take. You can buy a ticket that will allow you to ride the subway or buses around the city for one day.

If you only plan to ride the subway, it will cost you $3.25 to ride the subway for a few minutes. You can buy 10 tickets for $27.50. You could even buy ten tickets to ride the metro for just $27.50 (or, the bus)! If you want to ride the STC a lot, you might want to get a smartcard that allows you to buy tickets for unlimited rides. Opus cards are available for purchase for only $6 each, and you are able to load the cards with cash or Montreal Metro passes.

Cash-value cards work like reloadable debit cards, so when someone asks for your money, they just give it to the person who will pay the fare for the trip, and then the fare will be deducted from the money that your account has. If it's likely that you'll need to use public transport a lot, we highly suggest getting a card that gives you access to more than 100 different types of passes. You will need to have a number of different passes loaded onto your Opuse card, each with a different price.

Passes that are valid for 7 days allow riders to travel anywhere they want to go! Those passes are especially handy if you are going to do a bunch of things! If it's something that will be fun to spend a whole weekend in Montreal, get en route to the city in just one day and use the bus or metro again for another day. It will cost just $8 to buy a 31-ride transit pass.

Montreal has several highway connections that allow you to go to parts outside of the city, like Quebec City or Ontario. If you've driven from an area other than Quebec or New Brunswick, the highway to reach Montreal will be the 401 in Ontario and the 20 in New Brunswick.

Those coming directly from other provinces can use Highway 4 to get to Montreal, and from there, you can drive to the city of Quebec City! Highway 156 runs north-southern along the shores of the Saint Lawrence River (or the RR) in the city's northeast corner.
