How do I get from one place to another?

Montreal has many different neighborhoods, so taking public transport or renting a car to get around is advisable. Luckily, you have many different options for getting around in Montreal.

Public Transportation: SMTC operates both the subway and the bus in downtown Montreal. Metro & Bus: Metro tickets are sold at most metro stations. We suggest purchasing a daily pass unless you plan to do a ton of walking or riding the bus a good deal. Passes for one day are only $10; they will allow you to travel around the city for one full day.

If you've only planned to take a few subway rides during your trip, the trip costs only $3.25. You could even buy ten tickets to ride the metro for just $27.50 (or, the bus)! Depending on your plans, you might be able to get a regular pass for $10 or you might want to get a smart ticket for $2. You get that by purchasing a card called an Opis card, and it works much like a regular smartcard. Opus cards cost $6 each to purchase, and you pay with cash or other valid tickets.

Cash-value cards work like reloadable debit cards, so when someone asks for your money, they just give it to the person who will pay the fare for the trip, and then the fare will be deducted from the money that your account has. If it's likely that you'll need to use public transport a lot, we highly suggest getting a card that gives you access to more than 100 different types of passes. You should buy either 1-, 2-, or 3-day unlimited pass cards for $10, $15, or $27 for a one-week pass.

Passes that are valid for 7 days allow riders to travel anywhere they want to go! Those passes are especially handy if you are going to do a bunch of things! If your stay is longer, don't be afraid - there are 31-day unlimited use passes available for just $84.
