How do I get to places?

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. Metro & Bus: Metro tickets are sold at most metro stations. We suggest purchasing a daily pass unless you plan to do a ton of walking or riding the bus a good deal. A metro or bus pass is only $10 for a full day of free travel!

If you just plan on taking the subway, it will cost you about $3.25 to ride the same route. You could get a good deal by buying a cheap set of metro tickets ($12) that allows you to ride the metro or bus system unlimited times. You may be able to get a smartcard that allows you to buy unlimited rides and access other features on STM (Societe de transport de Montreal). Opus cards cost $6 each to purchase, and you pay with cash or other valid tickets.

Cash-value cards work like reloadable debit cards, so when someone asks for your money, they just give it to the person who will pay the fare for the trip, and then the fare will be deducted from the money that your account has. If it's likely that you will use public transport a lot, we suggest getting a smart card that charges you a fixed amount for each kilometer of travel. Opus cards cost $6 each, and you pay either with cash or with passes to ride for the day.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If your stay is longer, don't be afraid - there are 31-day unlimited use passes available for just $84.

Montreal has several highway connections that allow you to easily travel around the city and to neighboring provinces. You can reach Montreal easily by taking the 401 in Ontario, or the 20 in New Brunswick/N.

From Quebec City, you can get to Montreal by taking Highway 20 through the city and into Quebec City. Highways 15 and 16 take you along the main roads of Quebec City.
