We suggest purchasing a daily pass unless you plan to do a ton of walking or riding the bus a good deal. A $10 day transit pass gives you free access to the city's subway and buses for one day!

If you'd just like to take the subway, a regular ride on the subway costs only $3.25. You can also buy a book of 10 subway tickets for $27.50. You may be able to buy ten individual metro tickets, which will allow you to ride the entire system for just $7.50. If you're traveling a lot, you may want to get a Metro card or an Ops card to use for subway and bus rides. Opus cards are very inexpensive, and you pay for them with cash or tickets.

Cash values work just like putting money in your bank account and then paying the corresponding fare each time that your transit passes by. When you plan on using the metro or bus a lot, we strongly suggest getting a card that has passes on it, rather than using cash to buy the fares. Montreal has several highway connections with other areas in Quebec, as well as other Canadian provinces. If you've driven from an area other than Quebec or New Brunswick, the highway to reach Montreal will be the 401 in Ontario and the 20 in New Brunswick.

If you've driven from outside Quebec, you can take Highway 41 to travel to Montreal from other provinces. It will also connect you to the capital city of Quebec, Montreal! Highway 156 runs north-southern along the shores of the Saint Lawrence River (or the RR) in the city's northeast corner.
