There are many luxury hotels in Montreal, and they are very reasonably priced. There is an abundance of cheap places to rent apartments in Montreal. Some of them are more affordable than hotels. There are many different Airbnbs available in Montreal, including some in downtown Montreal, where there are plenty of fun things for you to see and do. Choosing to stay in an Airbnb or rent a vacation rental is the best way to really get the most out of a trip to Montreal.

How will you get from one place to another?

Montreal has many different neighborhoods, so traveling by train or car to explore the city is advisable. What's great is that you have lots of different options for getting around in Montreal.

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. You will be able to buy Metro tickets at most Metro stations. If you plan on riding the metro a fair amount, it is recommended that you get a Metro day ticket. A pass that costs just $10 allows access to all of the subway and the bus networks for one day.

If you only plan to ride the subway, it will cost you $3.25 to ride the subway for a few minutes. You can buy 10 tickets for $27.50. You might want to buy ten tickets, since some stations sell them for just $27.50 each. Some people opt to buy an Ops card, a rechargeable smartcard that allows you to use the public transportation system of the city. Opus cards cost $6 each to purchase, and you pay with cash or other valid tickets.

Cash values work just like putting money in your bank account and then paying the corresponding fare each time that your transit passes by. If it's likely that you'll use public transit often, you might want to buy an Ops card that has a number of fares attached to it, and not get cash. Opus cards are reloadable with cash value or with season passes to ride on the STM subway and buses for a very low price.

Passes that are valid for 7 days allow riders to travel anywhere they want to go! Those passes are especially handy if you are going to do a bunch of things! If it's something that will be fun to spend a whole weekend in Montreal, get en route to the city in just one day and use the bus or metro again for another day. It will cost just $8 to buy a 31-ride transit pass.

Montreal has several highway connections that allow you to easily travel around the city and to neighboring provinces. It's best to drive from Quebec or New Brunswick to Mont-Royal by taking the 401 to York (or the 20 to Saint John).

If you've driven from outside of Quebec, you can take the highway that leads through the city to a number of other cities in the country - even to Quebec City! Highways 15 and 40 run from Montreal to other parts of Quebec and Highway 2 travels between Montreal and Quebec.
