How do I get from one place to another?

Montreal has many neighborhoods that are hard to access by foot, so taking public transit or renting a car to get around is advisable. Luckily, you have many different options for getting around in Montreal.

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. You may purchase tickets for the metro at many of the stations; we would also highly suggest buying a free day-pass for any trip that you plan to take. A pass that costs just $10 allows access to all of the subway and the bus networks for one day.

If you just want to ride the subway, it only costs $3.50 for a one-way ride. You may be able to buy ten individual metro tickets, which will allow you to ride the entire system for just $7.50. If you're traveling a lot, you may want to get a Metro card or an Ops card to use for subway and bus rides. Opus is a simple smart card that allows you to pay for your rides with any amount of cash or a pass.

Cash values work just like reloadable debit cards - just put some money in the slot on the back of your bus ticket and start riding. If it's likely that you'll use public transit often, you might want to buy an Ops card that has a number of fares attached to it, and not get cash. You will need to pay for a day of unlimited rides to get around Montreal. These cards are prepaid and you pay with cash or cards that are prepaid.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If your stay is longer, don't be afraid - there are 31-day unlimited use passes available for just $84.

Montreal has several highway connections with other areas in Quebec, as well as other Canadian provinces. If you are driving to and from Montreal from outside of Quebec or New Brunswick/Nebraska, the easiest way is to take Highway 301 from Toronto.

Those coming directly from other provinces can use Highway 4 to get to Montreal, and from there, you can drive to the city of Quebec City! Highways 15 and 15A run north-southed, allowing you to connect to many cities in Canada.
