Cash-value smart cards work just like if your bank deposited money in a credit/debit account, so when someone charges someone to ride a metro or bus, the money is automatically deducted from the balance that was deposited. When you plan on using the metro or bus a lot, we strongly suggest getting a card that has passes on it, rather than using cash to buy the fares. Opus cards let you buy prepaid travel passes that allow you to use all the public transport in Montreal for a single price. These are available in three different packs of $3, $19, and $26.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If it's going to be a while, don't be worried because Opus is offering 31-day unlimited use passes for only $84!

Montreal has several highway connections that will take you all over Canada. If you've never been to Canada before, driving through Ontario is the easiest way for you to reach Montreal.

If you've driven from outside of Quebec, you can take the highway that leads through the city to a number of other cities in the country - even to Quebec City! Highways 15 and 17 lead north-southand along the main lines of the Transcanadiens and other major highways.
