Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. You may buy your tickets at most stations, but if you are going to ride a bunch of subways and buses, getting iPass Montreal is ideal. You can get a $10 daypass to use the free metro or the free bus transportation for an entire day.

Using the subway to travel from one city to another is really easy, and if you just want to ride the subway, the ride will cost you just $3.25. You will need 10 metro tickets if you are planning to ride the subway a lot. It will cost you $11 to buy 10 Metro tickets. You may be able to get a smartcard that allows you to buy unlimited rides and access other features on STM (Societe de transport de Montreal). Opus cards cost $6 each, and you buy cards with cash or tourist passes to add to your card.

Cash values work just like reloadable debit cards - just put some money in the slot on the back of your bus ticket and start riding. If it's likely that you'll use public transit a lot, we suggest getting a smart card that allows you to buy a range of different tickets that will allow you to use the STM system to pay for your transportation. Opus cards cost $6 each, and you pay either with cash or with passes to ride for the day.

Passes that are valid for 7 days allow riders to travel anywhere they want to go! Those passes are especially handy if you are going to do a bunch of things! If your stay is longer, don't be afraid - there are 31-day unlimited use passes available for just $84.

Montreal has some great highways, connecting it with the rest of the province and the rest of Canada. It's best to drive from Quebec or New Brunswick to Mont-Royal by taking the 401 to York (or the 20 to Saint John).

If you've driven from outside Quebec, you can take Highway 14 through Mont-Royal to get to Montreal (and even to Quebec City!). From there, it's easy to drive to several other cities in Quebec, but it's easier to get to Montreal by bus! Highways 15 and 40 run from Montreal to other parts of Quebec and Highway 2 travels between Montreal and Quebec.
