How will you get from one place to another?

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. You will be able to buy Metro tickets at most Metro stations. If you plan on riding the metro a fair amount, it is recommended that you get a Metro day ticket. A metro or bus pass is only $10 for a full day of free travel!

If you just want to ride the subway, it only costs $3.50 for a one-way ride. You will get a one-day pass for $10 or a pass for 10 days for $27.58. Depending on your plans, you might be able to get a regular pass for $10 or you might want to get a smart ticket for $2. You get that by purchasing a card called an Opis card, and it works much like a regular smartcard. Opus cards cost $6 each to purchase, and you pay with cash or other valid tickets.

Cash-value smart cards work just like if your bank deposited money in a credit/debit account, so when someone charges someone to ride a metro or bus, the money is automatically deducted from the balance that was deposited. If there are many times that you will be traveling by public transit, you should get an Ops card that offers you unlimited fares. You should buy either 1-, 2-, or 3-day unlimited pass cards for $10, $15, or $27 for a one-week pass.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If your stay in Montreal is more than just a week, don't be worried - as long as it's over for 31 days, the fares will be just as cheap.

Montreal has several highway connections that allow you to travel easily between other areas of Canada and Quebec. You'll find that driving through Ontario is the easiest way for you to travel to Quebec City. You can get there by taking either Highway 301 or 20 (whichever route you choose) if you live in New Brunswick/New Jersey.

Those coming directly from other provinces can use Highway 4 to get to Montreal, and from there, you can drive to the city of Quebec City! Highways 15 and 40 run from Montreal to other parts of Quebec and Highway 2 travels between Montreal and Quebec.
