How do I get to my accommodation and what can I do?

Montreal has many different neighborhoods, so finding a way to get around quickly by taking public transport or driving is highly recommended. Luckily, you have many choices!

Public Transportation: Metro and buses run all over Montreal. You will be able to buy Metro tickets at most Metro stations. If you plan on riding the metro a fair amount, it is recommended that you get a Metro day ticket. A metro or bus pass is only $10 for a full day of free travel!

If you want to go to the city by the subway, you can get a ticket for $3.25 for one trip. You may be able to buy ten individual metro tickets, which will allow you to ride the entire system for just $7.50. You may want to consider getting an Opis card, a smartcard that allows you to purchase tickets for a number of different things to do in the city. Opus cards cost $6 and can be filled with money or other value.

Cash-value smart cards work just like if your bank deposited money in a credit/debit account, so when someone charges someone to ride a metro or bus, the money is automatically deducted from the balance that was deposited. If it's likely that you will use public transport a lot, we suggest getting a smart card that charges you a fixed amount for each kilometer of travel. You will need to have a number of different passes loaded onto your Opuse card, each with a different price.

You can purchase multiple pass types for as long as your trip lasts; if you plan to do a ton of things, you'll enjoy having multiple passes. If your stay in Montreal is for a longer time, don't fret because there are many other options!

Montreal has several major highways linking it with the rest of Canada and Quebec. You'll find that driving through Ontario is the easiest way for you to travel to Quebec City. You can get there by taking either Highway 301 or 20 (whichever route you choose) if you live in New Brunswick/New Jersey.

From Quebec City, you can get to Montreal by taking Highway 20 through the city and into Quebec City. Highways 15 and 17 lead north-southand along the main lines of the Transcanadiens and other major highways.
