STM operates both the citys subway system and the citys bus systems. You will be able to buy Metro tickets at most Metro stations. If you plan on riding the metro a fair amount, it is recommended that you get a Metro day ticket. A pass that costs just $10 allows access to all of the subway and the bus networks for one day.

If you just want to ride the subway, it only costs $3.50 for a one-way ride. You might want to buy ten tickets, since some stations sell them for just $27.50 each. If you are planning on riding the metro or the buses a lot, you should get a STM Opus smartcard. This is essentially a card you fill with coins and that allows you to take advantage of the reduced rates that are offered. Opus cards cost $6 and can be filled with money or other value.

Cash values work just like reloadable debit cards - just put some money in the slot on the back of your bus ticket and start riding.
